Our Story

The Jeuness Track Club Inc. (joo-ness) is a grass roots community-based track club for girls, founded in 1985.  The club was established to afford young girls an opportunity to grow in the sport of Track and Field while excelling in academic achievement and life experiences.  The club is headquartered in Bedford-Stuyvesant/Crown Heights areas of Brooklyn for girls ages 5-17.  Our goal is to assist girls in becoming accomplished athletes, able to move on to the collegiate level and complete their education with the aid of athletic scholarships.

The team exposes members to a wide variety of competitions, both locally and nationally, as well as giving them the opportunity to travel internationally each year.  Some of the countries visited, include Germany, France and Italy (see International Trip Gallery here). Many of the members become the focus of college coaches at these national meets or through local press.  At present, the club serves approximately forty members that range in age from six to seventeen.    The coaching staff led by Coach Jean E. Bell, have over thirty years of running and coaching experience.  Several of the current coaches were former members of the team, who are eager to “give back” by volunteering their time and talents to our club.

The team has been a prominent force in track and field community.  Every year several team members from Jeuness are finalists in the Colgate Women’s Games, a highly competitive series of indoor meets held annually in NYC. Jeuness Track Club provides a rigorous training program for our athletes of all ages. We incorporate various styles of training consisting of both on and off the track elements, including Yoga, Aerobic & Anaerobic workouts; all of which build an overall strong athlete.

"As time and athletes change, we have to change with them. Incorporating different forms of training is necessary."

— Jean E. Bell, Head Coach

Every summer, team members compete and win medals as the top 8 finalists at the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Nationals, which features over 3000 athletes from across the nation.  Several team members are nationally ranked as the top runners in the country.  Other team members have achieved fame as members of the USA Junior National Team, and traveled to compete in the World Junior Championships in Korea, and throughout Europe. One former member has competed in the Olympic Games.

Although our running accomplishments are many, we are most proud of those members who leave the team with a higher purpose.  Alumni members of the team have gone on with the assistance of track scholarships, to attend, compete, and graduate from numerous colleges and universities, including but not limited to Georgetown University and St. Johns University.  Alumni members have completed their education at law schools, graduate schools and medical schools throughout the country, and return to speak to young team members each year. This is our goal for each member and it is these achievements that are counted as our greatest victories.
